Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni retire from international cricket

NEW DELHI: Veteran cricketers Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni have bid adieu to international cricket. Both announced the decision on their respective Instagram accounts on the same day.

Raina posted on Instagram along with a picture of his Chennai Super Kings teammates.

However, both Raina and Dhoni are playing in the Indian Premier League. They have arrived in Chennai for a training camp ahead of their departure to the UAE. The IPL is in the UAE this year from September 19 to November 10.

Raina has played most of his matches under Dhoni’s captaincy. Overall, he has scored 5,619 runs in 226 ODIs and 1,605 runs in T20I internationals. He is known as the first person to score a century in all three formats of the game.

As captain of the Indian cricket team, he leads the country in winning the first Twenty20 World Cup and created history by leading Team India to win the 50 overs World Cup in India in 2011.

Dhoni, in his illustrative career as Team India’s captain, has played 350 matches, while scoring 10,773 runs in 350 matches. He is the only international captain to have won all three International Cricket Council’s championships- the T20 World Cup, Champions Trophy and the ODI World Cup.
