BJP MLA’s relative’s social media posts cause riots in Bengaluru

A communally sensitive social media post by a relative of Congress MLA Akhanda Srinivasa Murthy has triggered violence on Tuesday night at DJ Halli in the Pulakeshinagar area of Bengaluru. Over 50 policemen who came to ensure peace was injured while 3 civilians died in the chaos.

Revenue Minister R Ashoka, speaking to reporters outside the Vidhana Soudha, said,” The manner in which the riots were perpetrated shows it was a well-planned act and was intended to spread to other parts of the city. These are traitors and we will subdue them.”

The rioters looted the MLA’s house before setting it on fire.

The minister further said that the government of Karnataka would send a strong message to these rioters so that no one can take the law in their hands ever again. He has also appraised the Chief Minister of the situation.

“Whether Populist Front or SDPI is behind it, we will not bother. These people must be arrested. We will hunt them wherever they are holed up.” The revenue minister said.

After meeting the revenue minister, the Congress MLA demanded governmental protection and a CBI probe into the incident.

When reporters asked about Naveen, his relative who posted the communally sensitive post, the Congress MLA said-

“Naveen is not my relative. For the past 10 years, we have not been in touch with him.”

The BJP meanwhile questioned Congress’s silence on the matter.

On this, BJP National General Secretary B L Santhosh tweeted,

BJP MP Shobha Karandlaje informed that this incident has occurred because of the Congress’ appeasement politics.
