Google Android Versions – Android 1.5 to Android 7.0
Google Android operating system was started in 2007 with Android 1.0 and version of Android was not so popular. While getting popularity about Android, Google started the journey with this version and people come to know with its later versions.
Android 1.5 Cupcake
This version of Android was introduced in April 2009. This version was built with some limited features of home screen widgets, home screen folder supports, copy-paste in web browsers, video recording, and playback.
Android 2.0 Donut and Android 2.1 Eclaire
Both versions of Google android has launched in November 2009 and January 2010 with a great feature of Microsoft Exchange Server. In the updated version of android OS, users can connect with the multiple Google account with single Gmail ID and camera flash has supported the first time.
Android 2.2 Froyo and Android 2.3 Gingerbread
Google Android Froyo 2.2 has launched in May 2010. This version has launched with new features and now users can use flash with video recording. It covered new features like updating contacts and emails to the Google server, WiFi HotSpot feature that allows users to connect multiple devices with one handset, flash player 10.0, etc.
Android gingerbread 2.3 launched in December 2010 with copy, paste and cut feature and the front camera supported features. Later Google android 2.3.3 version launched in April 2011 that supported with dual-core processor mobile phones.
Android 3.0 Honeycomb
This version specially launched for tablets in May 2011. Due to a large display of tablets, android widget designed little larger that fit the screen & give nice look. In the updated version of 3.0, 3.1 brought USB features to connect deceives via USB connector.
Android 4.0 Icecream Sandwich
This Google android operating system launched in December 2011 with Galaxy Nexus phone. It was an upgraded version of Icecream Sandwich and gingerbread that was compatible with tablets and mobile phones. It came with many exciting features like multi task works, drop & dragging system, notification bar, data usage limitation, screenshot, offline reading, etc.
Android 4.1 & 4.3 Jelly Bean
The first time Google Nexsus launched with android 4.1 Jelly Bean. There was a great performance of OS due to the improvement of CPU input boost and hard feature.
Android 4.4 KitKat
Google announced Android 4.4 KitKat on 3rd, September 2014. Google first decided to name this android version is “Key Lime Pie“, however, letter it changed to KitKat because there are only a few people who know the taste of “Key Lime Pie”.
Android 5.0 Lollipop
Android 5.0 Lollipop version of Android mobile operating system is pretty cool. Google developed it and unveiled it on 25, June 2014. Same as Android KitKat, this version was also named as Android L on June, 25 during Google I/O, but after so many developer previews, on 15, October 2014 Google officially announced Android L would be called as Android 5.0 Lollipop.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow
People loved this Android 6.0 Marshmallow Os a lot. This version released in October 2015 with codename M in development.
This version actually focuses on improving the user experience with many latest features like new permissions architecture, Google Now, New APIs for contextual assistants, improving battery draining issues, reduces background activities, USB Type-C connectors with much more other interesting changes.
Android 7.0 Nougat
Android 7.0 Nougat is latest version of Android and launched on August, 2016. This is the 7th major version of Android operating system. It’s first released on beta version and later officially launched on August 22, 2016.
With this version, Nexus devices being the first to get updated with this android version. The best features in this release is Split-Screen display that is capable to handle multiple apps appearing simultaneously on the screen in overlapping window.
