As we all know that the chrome browser is a development of Google Inc and Google never makes the security holes into their services and products. The Chrome web browser has inbuilt securities for browser extensions, so it’s not possible to directly install extensions in chrome that are not approved by Chrome Web Store. The Google chrome is one of the safest and fastest web browsers for Windows OS, Apple MAC, and Android phones. Earlier I have shared offline installer links for Google Chrome standalone setup, you can also check this post.

Well, there are so many cool Google chrome extensions available on the internet that are not officially available on the chrome web store, hence the problem is that chrome doesn’t allow users to install extensions outside the chrome web store.
If someone tries to install extensions or a user-script from chrome third-party extensions developer, it shows the following warning error while adding the app into the browser.
Extensions, apps and user scripts can only be added from the chrome web store
This is what you see when you try to add an unknown extension to the chrome. Just for the security reasons chrome blocks the unauthorized extensions and scripts.
I strongly recommend you to install extensions in chrome from chrome web store only because apps on the store are safe and secure.
Still, you want to install an extension outside the chrome store? Below I am going to show you how to install extensions in chrome that are not listed in the official Chrome web store.
Install Extensions in Chrome from Outside the Chrome Web Store – Manually
Go through the following simple steps to install extensions in chrome from outside the Google Chrome app store.
- Download the chrome extension with extension .crx (CRX file) on your computer.
- Launch Google chrome web browser and navigate to the Settings => Tools => Extensions or copy-paste this URL: chrome://extensions/ directly into the address bar and hit enter.
- Now simply drag & drop the CRX file of any chrome extension on the Extension Page at (chrome://extensions/) and you are done.
Now chrome will add the extension on your web browser easily.
Never install extensions outside the chrome store until & unless you fully trust the chrome browser app development company. Always make sure that the add-on, plugin or extension you are going to install is free of virus and malware because it may put your credentials at risk.
