Here you need to note-down some information about your drive or removable disk. Attach the drive in any of your computer’s USB port. Go to Computer or launch File Explorer and note this information on a paper – your drive’s name/label and drive’s letter (single alphabet letter suffix : {colon – a punctuation mark}).

Optional Step – Relaunch cmd.exe, if you closed it (see first step) and and type chkdsk h: /f (h is the disk or drive letter, change it with your own). This command will execute Check Disk to check the disk errors and will automatically fix them, if found any.

In the command prompt windows, type convert Your_Drive_Letter: /fs:ntfs and press Enter (replace Your_Drive_Letter with your drive’s letter).

The type of the file system is FAT32.
Enter current volume label for drive H:

Drive letter H might be different in your system as drive H is my drive. Type your drive’s volume name/label (ex: local disk/removable disk) and press Enter.

It’ll start FAT file system conversion and will take awhile depends on the storage used. After couple of minutes you will have your FAT converted drive to NTFS with no data loss.

Check To verify NTFS conversion, check it in the drive’s properties. Go to my computer => right click on drive => choose Properties.
